Weather at the Garden

SAINT CHARLES WEATHER
I have always entertained the concept of a garden. I'm just not very good at the execution of one. Until a friend of mine proposed to grow one with me on my land.

A Sequence of Awakening

 Friday January 1, 2021

A New Year arrives! There are high hopes it will be a better year than 2020. Building those hopes will take work, and in this case, probably dirty hands.

Monday, February 15, 2021

Lowest temperature for the winter. -21! It is only uphill from here.

Sunday, March 7, 2021

Liz and I went to Seed Savers to buy seeds, and to dream.

Sunday, March 14, 2021

I started tomato seeds, four varieties, and some butternut squash.

First sign of spring - tulip greens next to the warm brick of my house are coming up. Game On!

Monday, March 15, 2021

Late winter snow storm. We got 5 inches. Bleh!

Thursday, March 18, 2021

Red Winged Blackbirds seen and heard in the yard today.

Sunday, March 21, 2021

Killdeer heard this morning. This afternoon, on my drive to work, the Turkey Vultures are back, wheeling around the thermals over the hills near Mayo and the mall.

Egg production is increasing with my chicken hens.

Tuesday, March 23, 2021

One of the earliest and first plants to arrive are "spring greens", also known as Stinging Nettles. If you pull them early they make a nice spring tonic, before they have acquired their stings. Last year I cooked some up. Not this year.

Thursday, March 25, 2021

We visited the Como Zoo's Sunken Garden. Currently the Spring Flower Show is underway. It is always a refreshing reminder that Spring is just around the corner. I'll include just a couple pictures.

Monday, March 29, 2021

The first of many baby goats have arrived.

Tuesday, April 6, 2021

My tulips in the flower bed are waking up.

The magnolia tree will pop very soon.

Lilacs are waking up.

Soon there will be rhubarb.

Friday, April 9, 2021

First sign of the Bleeding Hearts awakening from dead branches from last year.

Wednesday, April 14, 2021

The seedlings are coming along.  Tomatoes were moved to bigger pots.

As too were the squash.

Planting Seeds

I have always entertained the concept of a garden.

I'm just not very good at the execution of one.

Until a friend of mine proposed to grow one with me on my land. Now she has grown many gardens. Forget the "green thumb", she has a green arm as far as I'm concerned.

An actual garden may really happen!  2021 is a good year to do it.
